ARTYKWARIAT Gallery and ZAMEK Culture Center in Poznań are presenting an exhibition of modern Aboriginal paintings, featuring works form the Smith Davidson collection from Amsterdam.

Aboriginals started creating their first canvases during the early seventies of XX century. Ten years was enough to accomplish international attention from art professions. The most common topics presented in their works were connected with rituals and history - themes to which access is given only to the group of highly initiated. Works of art are created directly on the ground, therfore their spatial orientation is unimportant. Birds eye - view is the most common perspective. Traces of mythical past are seen in the forms of representation, signs and shapes.

During the exhibition there will be presented 21 artists, part of them where participainting in establishing modern, aboriginal painting move. Among the works of art presented the first time in Poland there will be: Emily Kame Kmgwarreye, Johny Warangkula Tjupurrula, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula, Don Ellis Tjapanangka. The show is accompanied by a wide range of educational events: screening of Australian documental movies, workshops for children and adults, meetings with travelers and curatorial touring.
