Pieter de Claesz(1597-1660) was born in Brechem, near Antwerp. In 1620 he became member of a guild of St. Luke. He worked out his own specific style of painting with the use of soft colours. Claesz was a master of still life paintings. In his artwork he sought hard to express a light reflections on various textiles perfectly. He is now recognized as a still life genius. Still life paintings made by Claesz usually have an allegorical meaning.
