Ludwig HERMANN [1812-1881] was born in Greifswald, in Germany. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Berlin, under Johann Gottfried Schadow (since 1816 the director of Fine Arts Academy in Berlin) and between 1838 and 1839 in Paris. The artist frequently travelled to France and Italy (1842/32), among others. The selection of topics most eagerly painted by Hermann include represetaions of the seaside and harbour towns, as well as views from Belgium, Holland and Venice. His works are exhibited in City Museum in Gdańsk, in Friedenstein Palace in Gotha, in Kunstahalle in Hamburg, In Rudolphinum in Prague and in Mulhausen. Ludwig Hermann died in Berlin.
