Jan Jacob SPOHLER is one of the greatest masters of winter landscapes, successor of Andreas Schelfhout (1787-1870). Spohler was a teacher of his two sons Jan Jacob Coenraads (1827 - 1923) and Johannes Franciscus (1853 - 1894). He studied in Amsterdams Academy under direction of Jan Willem Pieneman (1779-1853). In 1845 he became a member of Academy. He worked mostly in Amsetrdam but visited also Haarlem, Brussels, Hague, Rotterdam and Lejda. He tried to capture the elusive Netherland atmosphere. His works of art can be seen in Teyler Museum in Haarlem, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam as well as Broederpoort, Kampen and lots of other private collections around the world.
